Did you know that walking and working can inspire award winning TV programmes? Imagine our surprise when we heard writer Debbie Horsfield of BBC1's Poldark claim that she finds her inspiration for the popular series at her treadmill desk. The writer was interviewed by Sara Cox on BBC Radio 2. When asked how she gets into the mind-set to pen the 18th century drama the writer claimed that staying on the move keeps her inspired and productive, and she spends her days writing scripts from her walking desk. The fantastic interview can be found here. Whether you're a Poldark fan...
When we sell a treadmill desk to a new user, we really enjoy hearing how they are getting on with their new way of working. We like to keep the door open so that they feel they can get in touch if they ever have an issue or simply just need a bit of help programming their machine. We hear some great accounts of weight loss, reduced back pain, improved health, better circulation and in one case a treadmill desk has even helped one of our customers to better manage their type 1 diabetes! So when someone takes the time to...
The way we work is ever changing, and not only are businesses having to change the way they operate, but employees are also being asked to adopt a fresh approach to work. The idea of hot-desking has been around for some time now, but now many large organisations are turning their entire office spaces into hot-desking environments. Whilst this may create a more dynamic workplace, we have to ask, is it good for employee health? The idea is that all staff are asked to clear their desks completely at the end of the day, and upon their return the following...

A recent national health survey produced some rather scary results – the average time that 45 to 54-year-old males are seated during a week day is seven hours and forty eight minutes, and seven hours and eighteen minutes for females. The survey also compared the sitting habits of the over 75, and although these were still high, they were practically equal to office workers some 30 years younger. With so many of us now in desk jobs, it raises the question, how is the computer age affecting our long term health? Computers first became a real part of offices in...
We were recently contacted by Cancer Research UK, they are currently working on their 'walk all over cancer' campaign and are being supported by businesses and celebrities all over the UK. In a bid to reach a wider audience they had been working with Claire Sanderson, editor of Women's Health magazine. Obviously a health enthusiast, given her job role, Claire was keen to fly the flag for the office worker - who sometimes struggle to fit in the recommended 10,000 steps per day. Cancer Research were aware of The Treadmill Desk Store due to the recent media interest on "sitting...

For years many of us have been strapping on our pedometers and marching towards 10,000 steps per day, yet apparently the magic number that we should all be aiming for is 15,000. New research in The International Journal of Obesity suggests that the recommended number of daily steps may actually fall short in terms of slashing your risk of heart disease. For the study, researchers in the UK recruited 111 Scottish postal workers who engaged in varying levels of physical activity: Some were office-bound with desk jobs, while others delivered mail on foot. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the postal workers who sat for most of the...
