A few tips for our new treadmill desk users!

I still get excited knowing that we're helping somebody new to rise up from their chair and onto a nice new Lifespan Treadmill desk!

Over the last week or so we've sent three treadmills up to Scotland so hello to our new users there.

So, in my excitement I thought I'd post up a few tips on how to get the best from your treadmill desk.

Firstly, it's always good to get the desk height adjusted correctly. I prefer my wrists to be resting gently on the desktop with elbows bent slightly more than 90 degrees. Monitor height is also important and I prefer mine to be set so I am looking down very slightly. The image below captures the ideal posture very well.

Speed is not of the essence! The most common thing I say to people is that whilst working on a treadmill desk you should walk more slowly than usual. My preferred speed is 1.1mph and whilst this seemed quite slow at first, I am now really enjoying the ryhthm and of course I can work very effectively.

Lastly, don't overdo it at the start. If you've got used to your office chair and then start walking at the treadmill desk for hours on end you will probably get a backache! So, work up gently with 30 mins at a time. This will also give you a chance to get used to working whilst you walk.

Finally, once you start walking more it is a very good idea to get some good training shoes. I pronate and with an average weekly step rate of 120,000 I went to a running shop and invested in some shoes that support my feet properly.

That's all for now but if you have any questions please email me:
